Tabulary files your open tabs into boards and collections kept on your own machine. A board is a shelf, a collection is a book, a saved tab is a page in it.
No account. No cap on how much you keep. Nothing leaves the device unless you switch on backup — and then it goes to a hidden folder in your own Google Drive, not to a server I run.
Three levels, and only three. Everything else in Tabulary — sessions, rules, the desk, the review queue — is a different way of getting at these.
The shelf. Holds collections, carries its own layout, and can be reordered by dragging.
The book. Holds saved links, takes an icon and a colour of tags, and moves between boards intact.
The page. A title, a URL, a favicon, and whatever tags you put on it. Never a copy of the site itself.
Grouped by what you can actually install. Tabulary 1.0 is published and local-first today; 1.1 is in development and not yet released.
Drag to reorder at any level. Give a board or collection an emoji so you can find it without reading. Tag across everything and search the whole library at once.
Each board picks its own shape: collections as a stack or a two-column shelf, tabs as cards, rows, or a gallery.
Browser bookmarks come in with bars as boards and nested folders as collections; Toby exports and Tabulary backups come in the same way. Every route previews exactly what it will create, and lets you deselect and reorder, before anything is written.
Export is one JSON file holding boards, collections, tabs, tags, sessions, rules, and desks.
A workspace you arrange yourself, beside your boards. Widgets — a clock, a note, a search box, a collection, the tabs open right now — go where you drop them and stay there. Nothing reflows to close a gap, because the arrangement is the index you built.
Drag a live tab onto empty space and it becomes a tile. Keep several desks and switch between them from the strip along the bottom. It takes over your new tab page only if you ask it to.
A named snapshot of the tabs you are working with — this window, every window, or a subset you tick through. Before reopening anything it compares the session against what is already open and defaults to opening only what is missing. You can override that, open everything, or restore the original window grouping exactly.
The extension button opens on search — by title, site, board, collection, or tag — with the tab you are on right there and one-click save to wherever you saved last. Or skip the popup: type tt in the address bar, then your search.
Save something useful now, decide where it belongs later. Tabs marked for review stay in a real collection the whole time, and the Review workspace appears only while something is waiting. File, keep, or delete one at a time, or select a run and deal with the lot.
One rule — everything from this domain, anything carrying that tag — and matching saves gather in one place. Membership is recomputed every time it is shown, so it never goes stale, and nothing moves: your tabs stay where you filed them. Delete the rule and you have deleted a rule, not a link.
Scan one board or the whole library. Tracking parameters, www., letter case, a trailing slash, and query order do not count as a difference. ?v= and ?id= do, because those select a different page and a false match costs you a tab you agreed to delete.
You choose the survivor in each group; it absorbs the tags of the copies it replaces, and one undo covers the whole merge.
Google, DuckDuckGo, Bing, Brave, Perplexity, Wikipedia, GitHub, Ecosia, and Kagi, or add your own with a %s where the query goes. Choose which appear, which is default, and whether the picker shows icons, names, or both.
Six palettes, with the background and the main colour chosen separately — this page wears the default pairing, graphite with rust. Light, dark, or follow the system. Save animations can be slowed or switched off, and a reduced-motion preference is honoured without being asked about.
Everything you save goes into IndexedDB in your own browser. Tabulary works fully offline. There is no analytics, no ad network, and nothing is sold or shared. It reads a tab’s title and URL only when you ask it to save that tab.
Google sign-in requests drive.appdata — a narrow permission for one hidden folder belonging to the extension. It cannot see your files, photos, or documents, and you can revoke it or delete that folder at any time.
Email-and-password sign-in is identity only; your tabs stay on the device. The privacy policy lists every permission and why it is asked for.
